In recent hours, Call of Duty fans have been circulating a series of hints and promotions revealing a fictional organization called The Guild, which is believed to play a pivotal role in the events of Black Ops 7. The global reveal of the game is set to take place next week during the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom.
Hints included a trailer, a new Activision-backed website as well as billboards on the streets of San Francisco. The promotional website describes The Guild as a tech giant that seeks to use technology in order to save lives and achieve world peace.
Thesite is full of robot-themed images and icons, showing scenes of The Guild’s robots saving children from fires, helping refugees, and rebuilding devastated areas.
Despite the creativity of the promotional campaign, not all fan reactions were positive. Some players expressed their displeasure, describing the game as an Advanced Warfare-style Black Ops with disturbing futuristic elements, while others commented: Why try to go in that direction?
Many observers have pointed out that Battlefield 6 is dominating attention this year, especially after the beta broke Call of Duty records on Steam and approached one million concurrent viewers on Twitch. Some argue that this could be the first year that Battlefield overtakes Call of Duty, even if that wasn’t the goal of EA’s developers.
What are your expectations for the Black Ops 7 reveal? Do you think the game will deliver a strong year for the series? Let us know.
